Greetings, KWCPS Families & Staff! As I shared earlier this morning, the division experienced a Verizon telephone outage that unfortunately lasted throughout the day. Verizon technicians responded early this afternoon and resolved a major hardware malfunction; however, poor connectivity remains, and final resolution may not occur before tomorrow. In addition, over the past several days, each of our schools has seen an increase in both student and staff illness and absenteeism. The spread of illness remains a concern, as well as the ability to ensure appropriate supervision of students in school. To help reduce the spread of illness, and to ensure that schools have functional phone service, we are canceling school for students and teachers tomorrow, Friday, February 16. Twelve-month employees are expected to report to work as scheduled. This cancellation will permit a thorough sanitizing of classrooms, common areas, and school buses, and allow sufficient time for Verizon to resolve the phone outage. And, because there is no school on Monday, the four-day break may help all students and staff recover from any illness. On behalf of our School Board and leadership team, we don’t make this decision lightly; however, tomorrow’s cancellation is in the best interest of student and staff safety and wellness. I apologize for any inconvenience to families, but hope that our community understands this health and safety priority. I hope you and your family have a safe and healthy weekend ahead. Thank you for your support!

Feb. 5-9 is a time to recognize and honor the hard work and dedication of our school counselors. These professionals play a crucial role in supporting students' academic, social, and emotional well-being. Their guidance and support help students navigate challenges, set goals, and reach their full potential. Thank you Ms. Bray and Ms. Washington for all you do for the students of CSPS!
